Senator Debbie Stabenow is proud of her record of accomplishments and service. This is a critical time in our nation's history. The following are highlights of Senator Stabenow's priorities to address the challenges that lie ahead for our state and nation:
- Senator Stabenow's Alternative Fuels Agenda
- Senator Stabenow's Education Plan
- Senator Stabenow's Health Care Plan
- Senator Stabenow's Jobs Agenda
- Make Prescription Drugs Affordable & Accessible
Continue the fight for accessible and affordable health care and prescription coverage for all Americans by providing a real comprehensive prescription drug benefit; repealing provisions to privatize Medicare; allowing the re-importation of prescriptions from Canada; protecting the prescription benefits of retirees with existing coverage; and implementing strong measures to lower prescription drug prices. - Keep the Security in Social Security
Keep Social Security secure by ensuring its solvency through the 21st Century. Create new, innovative opportunities for Americans to save and invest to create wealth and increase retirement security. Protect Social Security from privatization schemes that make Social Security less secure, leading to large tax increases, slow economic growth and destabilized financial markets. - Address Michigan's Crisis in Manufacturing Job Losses
More effectively enforce our trade laws, lower the cost of health care and make investments in education, job training and innovation. - Continue the Fight to Stop the Importation of Canadian Trash
Continue to work with EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt to enforce an existing treaty to stop the importation of Canadian Trash, and restrict the importation of trash through stronger enforcement measures at the Northern Border. - Provide Critical Homeland Security Resources to our Northern Border
Obtain the federal designation of Selfridge ANG Base as a Regional Homeland Security Center; establish Alpena and Camp Grayling as a regional homeland security training center; and obtain additional funding for homeland security and first responders. - Protect and Promote Michigan's Great Lakes and Maritime Heritage
Enact legislation to protect our Great Lakes from threats such as invasive species and water diversion, and preserve and promote Michigan's maritime heritage, lighthouses and tourism by passing the Stabenow Michigan Lighthouse and Maritime Heritage Act. - Pass Legislation to Address Michigan's Transportation Needs and Create New Jobs
Work with Michigan's delegation to increase Michigan's share of federal transportation revenues in the reauthorization of the transportation bill. - Address the High Cost of College for Middle Class Families
Provide additional tax relief for middle class families to save for college by passing the Stabenow College Savings Opportunity Act and The Hope for the Present Education Credit Expansion Act. - Renew Efforts to Pass a Strong Patients' Bill of Rights
In 2001, the U.S. Senate passed a strong Patients' Bill of Rights so patients and their doctors would make medical decisions, not HMO bureaucrats. Now, Congress must renew efforts to enact this into law.
