The Michigan general election will be held on Tuesday November 7th, 2006.

To register to vote in Michigan you must be:

• a U.S. citizen
• at least 18 years of age by Election Day
• a resident of Michigan and the city or township where you are applying to register to vote

In order to vote on Election Day, you must be registered to vote at least 30 days before the election. Whenever you move to a new city or township, you must re-register to vote. If you move within a city or township, you must re-register as well: but if the change occured 60 days or less before the election, you can vote one last time at your old polling place.

By state law, Michigan voters must use the same residential address for their voter registration and driver's license. So if you change or renew your driver's license, the address change will automatically be applied to your voter registration. If you register to vote in a new location, the address change will also be automatically applied to your driver's license.

If you register by mail, you must vote in person at your assigned precinct the first time you vote, unless you are:

• disabled as defined by state law
• 60 years of age or older
• temporarily residing overseas

Federal law allows citizens abroad and citizens in the uniformed services to register to vote only in the state that they last resided. If you never lived in the US, you may be able to vote using the address where your American parent(s) last lived.
