Sign the Petition to Stop Canadian Trash!

"Canadian trash isn't just offensive, it's dangerous. This is a fight we have to win, and I won’t stop fighting until the trash stops" -Senator Debbie Stabenow

Tired of Canadian garbage being dumped in Michigan’s back yard? Sick of watching waste trucks from our neighbor to the north roll across our bridges into Michigan? Worried by the security risks posed by un-inspected foreign trash flowing into America?

Well, so is Senator Stabenow, and she’s doing something about it. On July 13 she led her Senate colleagues in unanimously passing her plan to impose a $420 inspection fee on every Canadian trash truck crossing into Michigan.
  • Stabenow's plan requires all trash trucks from Canada to undergo a comprehensive security screening at the border - helping stop the flow of hazardous medical waste, radioactive materials, and illegal drugs into Michigan.

  • It also ensures that trash dumpers, not American tax payers, are footing the bill for these vital inspections.

  • Steep inspection fees are an important step in making it unprofitable for Canada to dump its trash in Michigan. Canadian newspapers have reported that these new fees would add an additional $150,000 a day to the cost of dumping trash in Michigan.

Action on this vital piece of legislation now moves to a conference committee. WE NEED YOUR HELP. The Senate has already shown its commitment to the Stabenow Canadian trash fees-by signing this petition you can send a message to the House of Representative that they need to include the Stabenow amendment in the final Homeland Security appropriations bill.

Make your voice heard-sign the petition below to send a message to the U.S. House of Representatives that enough is enough when it comes to Canadian trash. Let them know they need to put security first and vote to support Senator Stabenow's Canadian Trash Fees.
